What is nutrition?

"Nutrition is the process of converting the food into energy that nourish the body."

Our health is depend upon what we eat. That’s why nutrition plays a very important part in our health and development.

Nutritional Science is the study of food and their relation with the health and diseases.
Sarah Tyson Rorer is the first American dietitian. Coluthur Gopalan was the first Indian nutritionist. His work in the field of nutrition programs are recommendable.
 

Types of nutrition

1. Autotrophic
2. Heterotrophic
 

Autotrophic Nutrition

In autotrophic nutrition, organisms produce their own food by using water and carbon dioxide in the presence of light and chlorophyll . This kind of nutrition is observe in plants, algae, and bacteria (cyanobacteria).

Heterotrophic Nutrition

Organisms cannot capable to produce their own food, they have to depend on others for their food.
All the animals and fungi fall under heterotrophic nutrition. It can divided into three parts, herbivores depend on plants and carnivores depend on an animal. And third one depend on both plants and animals.
There are three different types of heterotrophs based on their mode of nutrition, such as:

· Parasitic nutrition (e.g., mosquitoes, lice, bedbugs, etc.)

· Saprophytes or Saprotrophic Nutrition (e.g., molds, mushrooms, etc.)

· Holozoic Nutrition (e.g., humans, dogs, cows, buffaloes, etc.)


What is a nutrient?

Nutrients are substances that give our body energy, act as building materials. It is divide in two major groups:

1. Macronutrients

2. Micronutrients

 

Macronutrients are responsible for providing energy to our body. The different macronutrients serve different energy pathways and functions in the body. It can be measure in units called calories.


Below are the five macronutrients.

· Water

· Carbohydrates

· Fiber

· Fats

· Protein


Micronutrients, like vitamins and minerals, need by the body in smaller amounts. They protect and promote various functions, such as growth and disease prevention.

How Nutrition Affects Our Health

Nutrition is a very important part of our health and development. It is relate to immune systems, safer pregnancy and childbirth, and a lower risk of any kind of disease. People with adequate nutrition are more productive. In this article we will discuss about the Nutrition and our health and how it depend on each other to maintain our good health.Malnutrition, in every form— fewer, excess, or imbalance—causes significant threats to health.

Conclusion

A healthy lifestyle start with having a balanced diet, which boosts the immune system. It helps the body to immune against invading viruses and bacterial infections. It should contain nutrients, such as seasonal fruits and Vegetables, dietary fibers etc.
